READMEs, show notes, run sheets and changelogs tend to arrive as raw .md files — readable enough, but not what you want to hand to someone or print for the gallery. Drop a markdown file into the box below, or just paste its contents, and read it properly rendered: tables, task lists, highlighted code and even Mermaid diagrams. Everything happens in your browser; nothing you open is uploaded anywhere.
How to use the markdown preview #
- Open a document. Drag a
.mdfile onto the tool, click Open… to pick one, or copy a whole markdown file and press Ctrl/⌘+V anywhere on the page. A paste outside the editor always opens as a new document. - Pick a view. Preview shows only the rendered document, Edit shows only the source, and Split puts them side by side — on a wide screen the tool stretches out to give both halves room, and the preview follows the editor as you scroll.
- Rename it by clicking the file name under the toolbar. Documents you paste or write are named after their first heading until you give them a name yourself.
- Take it with you. Download .md saves the source, PDF saves an A4 PDF, and Print prints just the document — no site header or buttons.
Recent documents #
The last three documents you open, paste or write are kept in this browser, and your edits are saved as you type. Pick one from Recent to switch back to it, or click × to forget it. When a fourth document arrives, the oldest one drops off. The next time you visit, the most recent document opens straight into Preview; if there's nothing saved, the tool starts in the editor instead.
Documents are stored in your browser's local storage, not on a server — they won't follow you to another browser or device, and clearing site data removes them. Keep a real copy of anything important.
What gets rendered #
The preview uses GitHub-flavoured markdown: tables (with column alignment), task lists, strikethrough, autolinked URLs and fenced code blocks. Code blocks tagged with a language — ```js, ```python, ```yaml, ```bash, ```json and around 25 others — get syntax highlighting.
A code block tagged ```mermaid is drawn as a Mermaid diagram — flowcharts, sequence diagrams, Gantt charts and so on. The diagram library is fairly large, so it's only downloaded the first time a document actually contains one.
Raw HTML inside the markdown is allowed, but it's cleaned before it's shown, so scripts and event handlers in a file you open can't run. Images with relative paths () won't show up, since the tool only has the markdown file and not the folder around it — images linked by a full https:// URL work fine.
PDF or Print? #
PDF downloads a file directly, in one click. It works by taking a picture of the rendered document page by page, so the text in the PDF can't be selected or searched. Page breaks fall between lines, never through them; a code block or table that fits on a page is kept together, and one that's taller than a page is split between lines.
Print opens your browser's print dialog with only the document on the page. Choose Save as PDF as the printer there and you get a sharper PDF with real, selectable text and working links — the better choice when the PDF is going to someone else.
